When people say it’s a stupid, superficial thing to avoid eating at Chik-Fil-A just because you disagree with the politics of the higher-ups, I assume those people don’t realize Chik-Fil-A profits are pumped into organizations that literally support legislation to execute gay people.
When people are actively spreading bigotry, it’s not superficial to take your business elsewhere.

I see this list of food and all I can think is, “awwwww yeeeeah, time for some non-hetero food binge parties.*” Pizza and oreos and Cool Whip and frigging Toblerones! It’s gonna be good.

I am gay and only my one friend knows so far. My mom doesn’t know yet. My dad doesn’t know yet. You didn’t know it when you gave us this homework. I am only 15 years old and I have never felt so alone. My mom and dad always are being angry about gay people and talking about how they are bad and going to hell and they also always talk about how all the gays should be shipped off to their own private island or something so that the rest of us could live God’s commandments in peace.

I have been so scared of them finding out that I’m gay because I know that they would hate me and would want me out of their life and at the same time I can’t keep this secret anymore because it is not something I asked for, never in a million years would I ask to be gay in a town like this where everybody would hate me. And anyways I can’t keep this secret anymore because I’m about to do something crazy like run away or hurt myself or something. I just want to be dead sometimes.

And then you gave us the assignment to write this essay for our homework and I read it like ten times I even skipped lunch and just kept reading it in the bathroom and by the time I went home I decided that maybe I am only 15 years old but maybe this town will change if I can be honest about who I am and maybe my family will change if I can be honest about who I am with them too. I don’t see why I don’t deserve love just like everyone else. I see some crazy stuff that so many people do and people still love them but for some reason everybody around here thinks its ok to hate gays and stuff. And I don’t know really I think I just realize that I don’t want to be Jacob in ten years and still live my life in secret and scared of being hated.

So I go home and I tell my mom to read this handout you gave us and she got so mad at me and started going crazy about how evil gays are and how all of this was just the devil spreading his work and everything else she said. But this time I just got mad myself and I got so mad because I suddenly realize that this is the woman that my whole life made me go to church where they talk about love just like the writer said but she and every other person I pretty much know just hate so many people especially gay people. So I got madder and madder and madder and then I snuck out and came to my friends house to write this essay because its time to stop letting people’s hate stop me from being happy. I mean should I really have to hate my life and want to die because other people are so hating?

And I don’t know what will happen but I am done playing like I’m something I’m not and if my parents don’t love me anymore because of this then I realize that’s not my problem and it will hurt but not as much as the way I hurt right now. I feel like if my mom and dad would just think about things they’d realize that what they always say and how they always hate gays is not what Jesus would do and maybe there is a chance that they will some day love me like Jesus would. I am their kid afterall.

Tonight I am going to send this to my mom and see what she says I guess. I don’t know what will happen but I know that I deserve to be loved just like everybody else does I just hope she thinks so too.

A Teen’s Brave Response to “I’m Christian, Unless You’re Gay”

This is an incredibly moving story. The fact that children have to live like this makes my heart hurt. Every child deserves the unconditional love of their parents.

Ava: Mommy, we saw Princesses skating on the ice!!
Me: Wow!!  Did you have fun?
Ava: Yeah, but there is a best part!!
Me: What was it?
Ava: We got to meet the Princesses and I asked Snow White if she had a boyfriend.
Me: (Laughing) Did you?  What did she say?
Ava: She said she did and then she asked me if I had one!! And I said I had one, but I didn’t like him any more.
Me: Oh.  Well, how come you don’t like him anymore?
Ava: Because I like my other friend now and then I got scared and asked her if I could still be a princess and she asked why so I told her that my friend I like is a girl and I want to have a girlfriend.
Me: (a bit surprised) Oh.  Ok, well what did she tell you?
Ava: That’s the best part!  She said that as long as I have love I already AM a Princess!!

1. This is very triggering about bullying and suicide. Proceed with caution.

2. This is from Rolling Stone’s Valentine’s Day issue.

3. If you are a straight person in the Glee fandom, oh god, do I want you to read every word of this.

This is horrifying, and that’s exactly why you need to read it.

Correction to the comment about: If you’re a person, you should read this.

this is not an article to go into lightly. it is not something to read without expecting to be profoundly affected. i feel sick to my stomach and i can’t stop crying. but if you are in such a space where you are capable of handling the topics involved, then it is a worthy read. a devastating one. such a world this is.

Oh man, this is — I can’t make it past the first page but this has to get out there. Pass it on.

Read this.

And this is why I want to go into law, to sue the pants off of douchebags like this who think it’s OK to let children die for their religion and their pride.

This is the reason why I have a bit of a problem with the It Gets Better Campaign. It’s not that I don’t think it’s helpful, and I appreciate what it’s done, but when you’re in a situation like these kids were/are in, you cannot wait for things to get better. They deserve far better than the messed up town they live in.

Sign the petition against 'Gay Panic' law in QLD

stfuconservatives:

torturedtangledhearts:

From Paul Kelly -
A loophole in Queensland law allows people accused of murder to defend themselves in court by claiming “gay panic” — that is, if someone who they think is gay “comes onto” them, the sheer panic they feel is partial justification for murder.

This law belongs in the dark ages —affirmed by the High Court in the notorious Green case in 1997, when a man responded to “gentle touching” by brutally murdering his victim.

The killer’s argument was this: “Yeah, I killed the guy, but what he did to me was much worse.”

Just over two years ago, a man was murdered in my church’s grounds, and his killers used this same “gay panic” defence. They were eventually acquitted of murder. I’m utterly appalled that a law that so revoltingly and openly discriminates against gay people is still tolerated in a modern society. Laws like the “gay panic” defence are a crucial part of legitimising and reinforcing a culture of hate which means that 73% of gay and lesbian Queenslanders are subjected to verbal abuse or physical violence for their sexuality.

While almost all other state governments have abolished similar laws, and refuse to admit evidence of non-violent homosexual advances in murder trials, nothing has changed here. Queensland is now one of the last states upholding the idea that a person can be panicked enough by gay and lesbian people to justify murder. In addition, the mere introduction of this evidence pollutes jury deliberations. That’s why I am calling on the Queensland parliament and LNP leader Campbell Newman to eliminate this law as a partial defence for murder, and forbid non-violent homosexual advance being treated as evidence in any murder trial. This situation cannot go on.

Please sign and help eliminate this antiquated, 17th century defence from our law books.

Take the message of why you signed the petition directly to Campbell Newman, who is likely to become Qld Premier in March: http://on.fb.me/y8qPeA

Sign it!

(Can you imagine if there was a law that made murder legal if a straight guy wouldn’t stop hitting on you? I once reblogged a thing that said homophobia was basically straight men’s fear of being treated like they treat women. When it’s a gay man hitting on a straight man, it’s a murder-worthy offense; when it’s a straight man hitting on a woman, she was asking for it/should be flattered/it’s in their nature to objectify you and say skeevy things!!!)

I know people like to try to dismiss protests and boycotts of the Salvation Army especially when “they do so much good, and besides, lighten up, they are a private private charity with huge influence, you think you not donating will hurt them?”

Actually yes, yes it will, especially if a lot of “us” can take down them. I don’t agree with their bigoted and ignorant policies, they won’t get my money. All that “good” that they do doesn’t negate the transwoman they let freeze to death in the street, or the gay couples they forced to break up and be forced intotheir beliefs just so they can live another day.

Yeah, they are a private entity, but that doesn’t give them the right to decide who lives and who dies, especially when they have the capability.

Other charities to support instead of the Salvation Army:

Do Whatever It Takes (supports youth homelessness)

Homeless Children Network

National Coalition for the Homeless

And two homeless shelter and services directories:

Homeless Shelter Directory (US only)

Homeless Directory- International Index
